API-first referral tracking for SaaS products

TinyRefs is an API for referral tracking and reporting. Your app sends a small set of high-signal business events such as signups, subscriptions, and invoices. TinyRefs applies your rules and maintains an earnings ledger for each referrer.

Works with any billing stack. TinyRefs calculates earnings and generates reports and exports; you handle payouts yourself.

POST /events
{
  "event": "invoice.paid",
  "customer_id": "cust_123",
  "invoice_id": "inv_987",
  "amount": 49.00,
  "currency": "USD",
  "referral_code": "ABC123"
}

Example: an invoice is paid. Your app sends this event. TinyRefs matches it to a referral and your rules, then updates that referrer’s earnings.

What You Get

Attribution, rules, and reports. TinyRefs does not move money or run payouts.

Attribution

When someone signs up with a referral code, you send an attribution event. TinyRefs links that customer to the referrer. Clear, one-to-one.

Events and Rules

You send events such as subscription.created, invoice.paid, or your own milestones. You define when a referral is eligible and what it earns. TinyRefs evaluates those rules and keeps the results consistent.

Reports and Exports

See how much each referrer has earned. Export the data and run payouts through your existing systems.

Why Event-Based Tracking

Many referral tools are built around a single billing provider. TinyRefs keeps tracking separate: your app sends business events, and TinyRefs evaluates referrals from those facts. This works whether you use Stripe today or switch providers later.

You decide which events matter and what rules apply. Learn more in our event-based referral tracking guide.

How It Works

Integrate via API or SDK. When a user signs up with a referral code, your app sends an attribution event. TinyRefs links the new customer to the referrer.

When business events happen (subscription created, invoice paid, or your own milestones), your app sends those events. TinyRefs runs them against your rules and updates earnings. You pull reports and run payouts yourself.

What TinyRefs Does Not Do

So you can evaluate fit.

No Payouts or Money Movement

TinyRefs calculates and reports what each referrer earned. It does not move money. You pay referrers through your own systems using that data.

Not Tied to Stripe or One Billing Provider

Works with any billing stack. You send events; TinyRefs does not need access to your Stripe or other accounts.

Not a CDP or Analytics Store

Referral attribution and earnings only. Not a customer data platform, marketing automation, or general analytics.

Not a Campaign or Landing Page Tool

No referral campaign builder or landing pages. You build those; TinyRefs handles tracking and reporting.

Use Cases

A few common setups for subscription and SaaS referral programs.

Trial to Paid

User signs up with a referral code; you send an attribution event. When they convert, you send subscription.created. Your rules decide how much the referrer earns (e.g. percentage of first invoice).

Renewals

Send invoice.paid with amount when a referred customer renews. Rules can attribute a share of recurring revenue or lifetime value to the original referrer.

Delayed Eligibility

Eligibility only after N billing cycles. Send a milestone like subscription.billing_cycles_reached. TinyRefs applies your rules to decide when the referrer qualifies.

2
